Bangalore is known as an active center for concerts in South India. From rock to jazz, a weekend in Bangalore is always fun due to various concerts being organized. This time, I went to one such rock concert and created one of the best memories while staying in Bangalore.
When I was a school kid, I borrowed a music CD from a friend, labeled as 100 best rock songs from the 80s. As I listened to the guitar strumming and percussion beats, I navigated through the album, one by one. That’s when I discovered the ‘Sultans of Swing’ song which managed to leave an everlasting impression to my preference in music. A quick search revealed Dire Straits to be the rock band that created this gem of a rock song. Since then, ‘Sultans of Swing’ has always been a part of my rock songs playlist.
Hence, since I decided to attend this concert, my excitement levels kept on increasing. The Dire Straits Experience concert was being organized at Bangalore International Exhibition Center by 100 Pipers Music CDs. They had already organized the concert in Gurgaon successfully and my friends there had enjoyed it thoroughly. I reached the venue before time at around 5:45 PM and waited for the magic to begin.
Along with my excitement to listen to one of my favorite rock songs live, I was also happy to be a part of the concert due to its cause – to support the initiative to provide drinking water to villagers in Rajasthan.
The venue was an hour’s drive away from where I stay. Usually, I don’t venture out far on Sunday evenings. But this time, I didn’t mind and reached the concert venue well before time. The gates opened at around 6 PM, allowing the music enthusiasts to enter the venue and take the closest position possible to enjoy the performance by their favorite rock band.
The act was opened by a local Indie rock band from Bangalore, known as Thermal and a Quarter. They were able to get the crowd in a groove before the curtains lifted for the grand entry of The Dire Straits Experience.
After their performance, a short break followed and then came the amazingly brilliant band of The Dire Straits Experience. People who had taken a seat on the ground during the break jolted up to start jumping on their toes and swaying to the music. The band started with soft rock songs, gradually increasing the tempo. Within no time, they had enchanted the crowd by their music and I was overjoyed to listen to their guitars and drums, infusing a beat of joy in my heart. My smile now measured from ear to ear as I traveled back in time to revisit my childhood days when I listened to ‘Sultans of Swing’ for the first time. I was eagerly waiting for them to play my favorite song and with a loud drum beat, I knew it was time! I closed my eyes and let that guitar rip my thoughts apart and I enjoyed one of my favorite rock songs with great fervor! The beautifully lit stage and ambiance added a great deal of exuberance in the ambiance. The concert was like a huge celebration, a celebration of music, of life.
The concert was soon over after ‘Sultans of Swing’ song and I left the concert arena, smile still broad. I knew I had created a memory to reminisce for many years to come!
