Places to visit in Jaipur | 3 Day Jaipur Itinerary

Jaipur, the pink city, was the first planned city in India. The neat streets and great architect will make you fall in love with the royal city!

The highlights of your Jaipur itinerary should be food & forts. There are many good eateries and places to visit in Jaipur which should be a part of your Jaipur itinerary without a miss! In fact, there are many things to do in Jaipur!!

In this 3 day Jaipur itinerary which covers things to do in Jaipur and places to visit, I have also recommended Jaipur accommodation, food & shopping tips. This 3-day itinerary for Jaipur covers best places to visit in Jaipur.

So, read on and start shortlisting the things to do in Jaipur. You can follow this itinerary or choose various Things to do in Jaipur and places to visit.

Accommodation & Local Transport

Before I suggest places to visit in this Jaipur itinerary, I would like to suggest the best accommodation & transport options in Jaipur.

I strongly recommend staying at a heritage hotel or a hostel. I stayed at Zostel, Jaipur. I met many international travelers here. As a travel enthusiast, their stories really inspired me! We discussed travelogues, culture, art, politics, religion, stand-up comedy, sitcoms and much more!

For local transport, I suggest booking a cab on per day basis. Ola cabs are also available in Jaipur. Alternatively, you can hire a car in Jaipur, which would give you more flexibility and comfort during your travels. You can also rent bikes or an auto-rickshaw. But, most of the bikes are not rented on a per day basis. Instead, they rent it out for 6-7 days after taking a high deposit from you. However, renting an autorickshaw for a day is an affordable affair.

If you book a car, you will shell out Rs 8 per kilometer for a sedan. Which is not a bad deal. In case you are interested in booking a car, let me know and I will give you a reliable contact number which you can rely for your Jaipur itinerary.

 Day 1

Hawa Mahal – Jaipur City Palace – Jantar Mantar – Shopping/Jal Mahal

Start your first day of Jaipur Itinerary by visiting Kota Kachori. It is one of the best places in Jaipur to try Pyaz (Onion) Kachoris.

After savoring mouth watering kachoris, head towards Hawa Mahal. The literal meaning of Hawa Mahal is “Palace of winds”! The architecture is designed to let the cool breeze continuously circulate in the palace. The numerous small windows provide a very different look to this beautiful architectural monument.

Next, this Jaipur itinerary would take you to City Palace, Jaipur to admire the architectural beauty. This place will help you imagine the grandeur of royal lifestyle which once shimmered in Jaipur! However, you will not be able to capture much of the grandiose on celluloid due to restrictions in photography.

Once you have admired the city palace, you can visit Jantar Mantar. Now, Jantar Mantar is not your regular architectural monument. It is very scientific. This attraction in Jaipur displays the ancient scientific instruments to study astronomy. Hence, I recommend reading a little about this before visiting. In case you are not an astronomy enthusiast, you can skip this place. But, it is located very close to Hawa Mahal & City Palace. So, you might just as well quickly visit Jantar Mantar and make it a part of your Jaipur Itinerary.

Once you have covered these attractions in Jaipur, you can choose Santosh Bhojanalaya for lunch. Located in Sindhi camp, this restaurant promises authentic Rajasthani cuisine. Another option for lunch is LMB (Laxmi mishthan Bhandar). Both are popular places to visit in Jaipur for local cuisine. I would highly recommend at least 1 of these from the two in your Jaipur itinerary.

Post lunch, indulge at local shopping at Johri bazaar. This market is considered to be a shoppers paradise. You can buy Gems, Jewellery, Sarees & Jaipuri quilts from here.

If you are not interested in jewelry, you might like Bapu Bazaar. This market is known for authentic Jaipur stuff like bedsheets, cushions, salwar suits, kurtas, chappals etc. If you would like to buy a gift for a loved one, this is the perfect market for you.

You can end your hectic day 1 of Jaipur itinerary at Lassiwala in Bapu Bazaar. The lassi here is just amazing!

If you are a bunch of guys and have no interest in shopping whatsoever, you can visit the spectacular Jal Mahal in Jaipur. As the evening colors of the sky change in backdrop, the elegance of Jal mahal stands in grandeur. You cannot enter this architectural beauty. However, you can surely click some magnificent pics.

End your day by having a sumptuous meal at Thali House in Sindhi Camp. This restaurant is very affordable. Their quick service will not let you stay hungry for long. If you are in search of authentic food in Jaipur, Thali house will not disappoint you. With the grand lunch, your day 1 of Jaipur itinerary will come to an end.

 Day 2

Amer Fort – Jaigarh Fort – Nahargarh Fort

Start your 2nd day of Jaipur itinerary with breakfast at Rawat Mishthan Bhangar. Lip-smacking Kachoris with some flavored milk will be a perfect way to start Day 2. Post breakfast, you can visit all the 3 beautiful places to visit in Jaipur. I am referring to the 3 forts in Jaipur; Nahargarh fort, Jaigarh Fort & Amer Fort. Your Jaipur itinerary will remain incomplete without these forts.

Start the day with Amer fort. also referred to as Amber fort. This fort offers beautiful views and splendid architecture to admire. The Amer fort is undoubtedly one of the finest forts in India and a must visit Jaipur attraction to be included in Jaipur Itinerary.

Next, you can visit Jaigarh Fort which is in the vicinity. It is located on a mountain which is literally named as “Hill of Eagles”.  This architectural marvel provides a great view of the Jaipur city. The biggest attraction here is the Jaivana cannon. It is the world’s biggest wheeled cannon ever made. The cannon was manufactured indigenously at the fort. The diameter of the cannon wheels measures up-to 12 feet!

A noticeable thing about Jaigarh fort is that you can take your car inside the fort! If you decide to walk and explore Jaigarh fort, you will have to spare 1-2 hours.

Next, you can visit Nahargarh fort. It is located at a distance of 8-10 KMs from Jaigarh fort. This fort offers a better view of the Jaipur city. In the evening, this fort looks beautiful with a splendid backdrop. Rang de Basanti movie shooting took place here. I am referring to the scene where Aamir & Sharman are drinking beer and later fall in a pool. Nahargarh fort has a restaurant, known as Padao, where you can sip coffee while admiring the magnificent view of Jaipur city. This “Bollywood destination” definitely cuts the list of things to do in Jaipur.

After exploring these places to visit in Jaipur, you can end day 2 of your Jaipur itinerary by relishing authentic cuisine at Shri Balaji Veg restaurant. My personal favorite here was Gatte ki sabzi.

Day 3

Bhangarh Fort & Birla Mandir

Today, we hunt ghosts! Not that local folks have seen ghosts here. But, it definitely adds excitement to the trip. Bhangarh fort is a highly recommended inclusion for your Jaipur itinerary. This most haunted place in Asia is located at a distance of 83 KMs from Jaipur city. It hardly takes 1.5 – 2 hours to reach this place.

Before starting your trip, have some delicious breakfast at Kanha Sweets or Bombay Mishthan Bhandar. Once you reach Bhangarh fort, explore the ruins and imagine the grandeur of this ruined fort. The place is really spooky. You can enjoy a spectacular view from the top of the Bhangarh Palace. You can read about my visit to Bhangarh Fort in detail.

Next, you can visit Birla Temple which is also referred to as the Laxminarayan temple. This temple is an architectural marvel. The intricate carvings will amaze you. The temple provides a very serene and tranquil aura.

After taking blessings, you can end your 3 days in Jaipur by completing the Jaipur Itinerary. You would have covered all the best places to visit in Jaipur by following this itinerary. Head back to the Airport/Railway Station/Pick up point while reminiscing the memories of the Jaipur attractions.

I hope you liked this 3 day Jaipur itinerary which covers the above-mentioned places to visit in Jaipur. Have you been to Jaipur? Let me know your experience about these recommendations and this Jaipur itinerary through the comments. Cheers!

  1. Hey Umang,
    Thanks for an interesting itinerary.
I plan to visit next year with my family. I have booked the flights, however, not sure about hotels, since we have 2 kids with us. Can you suggest the best way to plan and go about a 4-5 day stay in Jaipur in a reasonable budget. Would like to visit as many places in this span of time. Would you be able to help with the cab booking ( you said you will provide a number) also. Another thing ids we will travel tot Delhi from Jaipur, so another itinerary of Delhi Agra and surrounding areas for the next 5 days would be really helpful. This trip will include my wedding anniversary day and I want to make it really memorable
Thank you so much in advance

  2. Hi Tanuja,

I have answered your questions below.

    1) Can you suggest the best way to plan and go about a 4-5 day stay in Jaipur in a reasonable budget.

    – This itinerary includes the best places to see in Jaipur. So, if you want to make a 5 day trip, I would suggest you to visit Jodhpur also. If you want to spend leisure time in Jaipur, you can cover the attractions mentioned here and after that explore the city and discover food joints. Jaipur can provide you great food!

Regarding a budget hotel, I would suggest you to check HolidayIQ.com or Tripadvisor.in. I personally stayed at Zostel which is a backpacking hostel. If you like the idea of staying in a hostel, it can be a unique experience for you.

    2) Would you be able to help with the cab booking ( you said you will provide a number) also.
    – You can call this guy: Rajinder (Number deleted) (Update – PLEASE DON’T REACH OUT TO HIM. ONE OF MY READERS HAS REPORTED HIM FOR FRAUD. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE TO VINAY)

    3) Another thing is we will travel to Delhi from Jaipur, so another itinerary of Delhi Agra and surrounding areas for the next 5 days would be really helpful.
    – Delhi & Agra would be great after Jaipur! In case you are visiting Delhi for the first time, you can consider going to Humayun tomb, Qutub Minar & other heritage places. In Agra, Taj Mahal is there, obviously, but in addition, you can visit Agra fort, Mehtab park etc.

I would recommend that in your itinerary of Jaipur – Delhi – Agra, you can include Jodhpur as well.

Hope you find my answers helpful. Feel free to ask further queries.

  14. The color that adorns the city takes form in the hearts of the people living in it. It signifies the romanticism of a bygone era treasured and kept alive by the people of Jaipur. Set against the magnificent backdrop of majestic forts and palaces, the city is reminiscent of the lingering romance for life, art, music, and literature that was upheld by the rulers of this princely state. To know more about jaipur click below link:
