While there are hundreds of reasons to travel, whatever the reason, it should be your own. You should feel in harmony with your decisions, acting out of your will and desire. And though the world is a massive place and there’s no way you will see and do it all, and time is always turning, changing everything, including you, you must travel here and now, for your purpose.
Is it an adventure you seek when you travel?
Nature and Adventure
One of the main reasons I travel is to be with nature and to have adventures that challenge my body and soul. Whether it’s a trek in the Himalayas or a road trip through India, life seems like more of a journey when you give yourself over to ‘see what will happen’ or confront and humble yourself before the forces of nature.
If you live in the city, a trip out to nature can be one of the most rewarding experiences. It’s great to be away from the noise and busyness for a while and to come back to the natural pace of life.
In fact, there are several scientific reasons why spending time in nature is beneficial for you, from improving your overall health to enhancing your mood and reducing depression. So, if there’s any reason to travel, being with nature is it (for me, at least!).
Festivals and Events
The world is full of great festivals and international events, and to get an opportunity to watch any of them live, you have to make the effort to travel. There’s Songkran, the Thai water festival in which everyone takes to the streets for a huge water fight, Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and the Holi festival of colour across India. Each is worth a visit!
The Holi Festival takes place in India every March and is a lot of colorful fun!
One of the biggest events this year is the World Cup, with Germany and Brazil both looking solid to win with World Cup odds of 19/4 and 4/1, respectively. Tickets are still available for many games. World Cup aside, if sports are your favorite hobby, there are many sporting events to choose from in the world.
Culture and Food
One of the most rewarding aspects of travelling is being in a new place. It opens your eyes to what’s around you and can offer different perspectives about the world. You truly learn a lot from immersing yourself in new cultures and you may gain a sense of relativity — that people, places and ideas are different across the world.
Intrinsically tied in with culture is food. Even in India, food is different in the North and the South, and each region has its way of preparing and cooking. As you travel the world, you will find ingredients you have never heard of and dishes that make your mouth water. But equally important, and as many people who travel with food as their focus have found, it’s another way to get to know a place and its people.
To Learn About Yourself
As well as learning about other places and cultures, travel gives you the opportunity to learn more about yourself. This is what many people travel for, especially in their formative years. It’s a journey to better understand the self through an interaction with the world — the school of life. For many people, travel is a way to learn and grow.
Let’s face it: There are many reasons you could have a desire to travel. You might want to meet new people, visit a landmark or find a place that gives you peace. But the truth is you don’t even need a reason to travel, as the desire itself is reason enough to go. Whatever your reason for travel, have a rewarding and excellent experience!
